'No on 37' formed to oppose GMO label law

Farmers, food producers, grocers and a number of companies with interests in biotechnology have established "No on 37: Coalition Against the Deceptive Food Labeling Scheme" to oppose the California ballot initiative this fall that concerns labeling regulations for foods that contain genetically modified ingredients.  The groups have contributed more than $13 million to defeat the initiative, which will be listed on the ballot as the "California Right to Know Genetically Modified Food" measure, which will be Proposition 37 and is referred to as "Prop 37." The measure would require genetically modified organism (GMO) labels for all agricultural commodities produced with GMOs and for processed foods sold in retail stores if more than 0.5% of a food has a GMO in it.
