PG&E dairy customers eligible for energy efficiency program |
|
The Dairy Energy Efficiency Program (DEEP) PG&E small and medium-sized dairies get cash incentives for measures that can reduce their energy consumption and costs. PG&E has contracted with EnSave, a third party energy-efficiency implementation specialist, to implement the Dairy Energy Efficiency Program. EnSave has been providing agricultural energy efficiency programs in the dairy industry since 1991. Throughout the life of EnSave’s DEEP, over 300 producers have saved over 12,456,600 kWh for more than $1,300,000 in savings per year. Dairy producers using up to 500,000 kWh annually are eligible to participate in this program. The program helps dairies process optimization, lighting, and HVAC measures, including variable speed drives, plate coolers, compressor heat recovery units, scroll compressors, lighting, time clocks and ventilation. EnSave works with local professionals to provide Agricultural Energy Management Plans across the United States. There are over 200 trained data collectors across the U.S. who visit farms in order to verify and collect energy information. The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) has directly or indirectly helped fund this national program, because they recognized a need to build an infrastructure for farm energy audits.
