Dairy Nutrient Management Plan highlighted in NRCS video |
USDA’s Natural Resource Conservation service has posted a video detailing how California dairies are protecting water quality by implementing Comprehensive Nutrient Management Plans (CNMP). The video highlights the efforts of Galt dairy owner Fred Denier to expand the dairy’s capacity for handling its waste water. Engineer Jason Rambach discusses how a Comprehensive Nutrient Management Plan (CNMP) can help dairies with their water quality needs by capturing, holding and using the waste water generated on a dairy. Rambach says NRCS can provide planning, technical and financial assistance. The video shows some of the components of the Denier’s CNMP including a properly sized and lined lagoon to hold waste water for recycling, a manure separator and a methane digester system. The system has both production and environmental benefits. The video can be viewed by clicking here. Dec. 16, 2011 NRCS Press Release
